Our MissionIn 1983 the West Parry Sound District Museum was incorporated as a non-profit organization. It evolved from a group of local citizens who were concerned that the rich history of the district be preserved and interpreted for generations to come. It was also recognized that a community museum would enhance the quality of life in the area and provide a cultural resource to a wide spectrum of local residents. The commitment to the project was strengthened when it became apparent that the new Museum had potential as a significant tourist attraction. The current building opened for viewing in 1992 and serves the Town of Parry Sound and the entire West Parry Sound District. In 1999 the Museum took over operation of Tower Hill, the park in which the Museum is situated, and this space is dedicated to the exploration of natural history. The Statement of Purpose, as recorded in the original incorporation documents, is as follows:
A proposed new Mission Statement and Vision Statement, pending adoption by the Board of Directors and members of the Museum, will augment this purpose. Mission: Vision: The Museum currently offers year-round exhibits to approximately 10 000 visitors annually. The permanent gallery, housed in the E. Roy Smith Room, explores the human history of the District through interactive displays. Visitors are also offered temporary exhibits throughout the year - both nationally traveling shows and those created by the Museum. |
